ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Islamabad today (Thursday) for a day-long visit, Geo TV reported.
Upon arriving, the Iranian minister met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in different fields.
Sources said the two sides also discussed matters relating to the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.
The completion of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project will help Pakistan overcome its energy shortage, Prime Minister Sharif was quoted as saying.
Sources said the two sides also discussed matters pertaining to regional stability and the peace process in Afghanistan.
A high-level delegation led by the Afghan foreign minister is also scheduled to arrive later today in Islamabad.
Dr Zarif is also scheduled to meet his Pakistani counterpart, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
According to the Foreign Office, Dr. Zarif will brief the Pakistani side on the Joint Comprehensive Programme of Action, the nuclear agreement signed by Iran and world powers in Vienna on July 14.
The two sides will exchange views on further enhancing of bilateral relations and discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest.
