Tragic to see hate speech against minorities in NA, says Ahsan Iqbal

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, on Thursday, in a tweet called retired Capt Safdar’s speech in National Assembly “tragic”. Muhammad Safdar’s hate speech against Ahmadis in National Assembly on Tuesday generated reactions from activists and political parties.

The lawmaker in his tweet wrote, “It is tragic to see hate speech against minorities in National Assembly. We believe in an inclusive Pakistan.  Pakistan respects all minorities”.

Bilawal Bhuto Zardari, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party, also criticized Safdar’s speech. Bilawal Bhutto said, “The bigotry, hatred & extremism on display in the National Assembly yesterday goes to show Nawaz league has been mainstreaming terror well before MML. No place for this mindset in our society.”

Capt (r) Safdar, who is son-in-law to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, described Ahmadis as a ‘threat to this country’. He demanded for full curb on Ahmadi’s employment. Although his address attracted criticism from human rights activists, most of the members from Muslim League (N) did not comment about it.
