Services of X restored in Pakistan, PTA lawyer tells SHC

KARACHI – Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, has been restored for millions of Pakistani users, a lawyer of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (SHC) told the Sindh High Court (SHC).

The lawyer told the high court the official letter seeking the ban on X had been withdrawn, restoring the services of the social media platform, which has been blocked since February.

The PTA lawyer submitted the response after SHC sought the authority’s stance on the matter regarding ban on X in Pakistan.

It is unclear whether the ban on X has been lifted temporarily or permanently. Following the PTA lawyer’s reply, the high court adjourned the hearing on petitions filed against ban on the social media platforms for two weeks.

However, people are facing problem while accessing X despite a statement given by the PTA lawyer in the high court.

It is recalled that the ban on X was originally placed back in February after general elections 2024 due to rising allegations of election fraud.

Since then, the users in Pakistan have been facing intermittent access issues as most of them using the platforms through VPNs.
