Nawaz Sharif, sons will not appear before NAB: sources

ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, and his sons – Hassan and Hussain Nawaz – will not appear before National Accountability Bureau (NAB), says a spokesperson of Sharif family.

“We have learned about the NAB notice only in the news, no communication [has] been made till now,” said Asif Kirmani, adding they didn’t receive any notification.

NAB has summoned Nawaz Sharif and his sons, Hasan and Hussain Nawaz, on August 18 to its Lahore office.

References would be filed by NAB Rawalpindi against Nawaz Sharif, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz, Capt (r) Safdar Awan and Ishaq Dar. The case will be pursued in an accountability court.

Media reports suggest the Bureau has decided to not reopen the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case against the Sharif family.

The decision was taken by NAB authorities on the grounds that earlier in October 2011, a Rawalpindi division bench of the Lahore High Court restrained the accountability court from proceeding in the matter after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and members of his family challenged the revival of the references and requested the court to quash the cases, according to Geo News.

NAB authorities also stated that the Supreme Court has not clearly directed to reopen the Hudaibiya case.

b) Reference relating to establishment of Azizia Steel Company and Hill Metal Company.
