PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has crossed another milestone in the power sector by completing Daral Khwar Hydropower project with 36.60 megawatts of generation capacity.
The provincial owned hydropower project has been connected to the national grid after starting of power generation.
The power project will earn Rs 1.2 billion annually for provincial exchequer.
According to Chief Executive Officer, Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) Engr Syed Zain Ullah Shah, Daral Khwar is located in district Swat about having distance 185 KM from Peshawar, the project will generate annually 154 GWh electricity which will earn Rs. 1.2 billion for the province.
He further stated that the power project in question is generating the cheapest and cleanest source of electricity.
He revealed the fact that besides Daral Khwar, a number of other power projects will start generating electricity during the current year, thus earning billions of rupees for the provincial kitty.
PEDO has identified around 6000-megawatt hydropower potential at various sites in the province and the selected sites are at different stages of implementation.
PEDO has successfully completed six small and medium-sized hydel power projects including 81.00 MW Malakand-Ill, 18.00 MW Pehur, 1.80 MW Shishi, 4.20 MW Reshun, 2.40 MW Machai and 17.00 MW Ranolia Projects in the province.
