TEHRAN – Demonstration against India was staged by over a hundred Kashmiri community members and students in Iran on Sunday.
The protesters gathered in front of the UNO office in the capital city of Tehran and decried the recent measures taken by the Narendra Modi-led regime in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
On the occasion, anti-India and pro-Kashmir related pamphlets were also distributed; the protesters also handed over memos to the officials of UNO.
The protest was staged days after India revoked the special status of the Kashmir valley by scrapping article 370 and 35A of the constitution in a rush decree.
Iran’s prominent Ayatollah (cleric), Hossein Nouri Hamedani had also called out Indian authorities for the treatment meted out to Kashmiris in recent days, condemning the move.
In a statement posted to his website, Hamedani said the silence of international organizations and human rights defenders is unfortunate for this kind of approach.
“They have besieged the Kashmir valley and cut off communications. It [India] forbids any gathering and even Friday and congregational prayers and, in the event of any gathering, responds with bullets,” the cleric said.
