KARACHI – The appointment of Pakistan’s upcoming Chief Justice remains in the news as the government is making constitutional amendments for establishing Federal Constitutional Court and increasing age of retirement for judges.

Amid the heated discussions, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto said that he believes Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will be appointed as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.

PPP leader criticised the functioning of Parliament and the sluggish pace of the justice system, recalling that his family has awaited a verdict in the Zulfikar Bhutto murder case for 50 years.

He called for caution in making Supreme Court judges controversial and highlighted the necessity of consensus in constitutional amendments, calling it extea ordinary constitutional amendment.

Bilawal commended Justice Qazi Faiz Isa for respecting the Parliament’s Practice and Procedure Bill and curtailing his own powers, and expressed wish to delay changes to Article 8.

He further demanded that the government provide evidence regarding the events of May 9 to clarify the involvement of the PTI founder, ensuring that the issue is addressed through legal means. Bilawal stressed the importance of adhering to court decisions concerning military courts.
