Some professional journeys end when you return home. Others stay with you because they leave behind new ideas, new perspectives and a deeper understanding of the world.
My visit to Dubai to attend Gulfood 2025 was one of those experiences.
As a Pakistani journalist, I had the opportunity to witness one of the world’s most significant food and beverage exhibitions, where businesses, entrepreneurs, buyers, innovators and professionals from across the globe came together under one roof.
But for me, Gulfood was much more than an exhibition.
It was a glimpse into how the modern business world was evolving — and how Dubai had successfully positioned itself as a place where the world could meet, connect and create opportunities.
Dubai: A City Built Around Possibilities
Before visiting Dubai, I had already seen its remarkable transformation through the media and through previous visits. But experiencing the city in the context of an international business event offered a different perspective.
Dubai was not simply a destination for tourism and luxury.
It was a global meeting point.
During my time there, I observed people from different nationalities, cultures and industries interacting naturally with one another. Business conversations were taking place everywhere, ideas were being exchanged and new connections were being established.
That multicultural environment was perhaps one of the most impressive aspects of the experience.
Dubai had created an atmosphere where a person could arrive with an idea and potentially leave with a new connection, a new market or even a new direction for their business.
Gulfood 2025: More Than Food
Gulfood 2025 brought together an extraordinary range of international companies and products.
Walking through the exhibition halls, I saw how diverse and innovative the global food industry had become.
There were traditional products presented in modern ways, innovative food concepts, new technologies, sophisticated packaging and businesses looking beyond their domestic markets.
As a journalist, I found this particularly interesting because an exhibition of this scale was not just about products.
It was about stories.
Every company had a story.
Every entrepreneur had a journey.
Every product represented someone’s investment, vision and years of hard work.
Behind a beautifully designed package was often a person who had taken a risk and believed that their idea could reach beyond their own country.
That human element made the experience particularly meaningful for me.
Seeing Pakistan on a Global Platform
Being Pakistani, I naturally looked for my country’s presence at Gulfood.
Pakistan’s participation gave me a sense of pride because it demonstrated that our food industry had products and businesses capable of engaging with an international audience.
Pakistan had much to offer.
Our rice, spices, fruits, vegetables, meat, salt, processed foods and traditional food products had enormous potential in international markets.
But the exhibition also made one thing very clear to me: Having a good product was no longer enough.
The global market demanded quality, consistency, food safety, professional packaging, strong branding, reliable supply and effective communication.
Pakistan already had many of the raw strengths.
The next step was to present them to the world at a level that matched international expectations.
What I Learned from Dubai
One of the biggest lessons I took back from Dubai was that successful global positioning did not happen overnight.
It required vision, planning, infrastructure, consistency and the ability to think beyond immediate opportunities.
Dubai had demonstrated how a city could create an ecosystem where international businesses felt encouraged to come, meet and explore possibilities.
Gulfood was a reflection of that approach.
The event brought together people who might otherwise never have met.
A producer could meet a buyer.
A startup could meet an investor.
An exporter could discover a new market.
And an established company could find new partnerships.
This was the real value of such international platforms.
The Human Side of Business
What stayed with me most after returning from Dubai was not simply the scale of Gulfood.
It was the people I saw there.
Entrepreneurs stood proudly behind their products.
Business representatives spoke passionately about their companies.
Young professionals discussed new ideas.
And established businesses continued to search for ways to grow.
It reminded me that behind every successful business was a human story.
There had been uncertainty, investment, hard work, failure, learning and persistence before success became visible.
That was perhaps the most inspiring part of the entire experience.
A Lesson for Pakistan
My experience at Gulfood also made me think about Pakistan’s future.
We had talent.
We had resources.
We had agricultural strength.
We had a rich food culture.
And we had entrepreneurs who were already trying to take Pakistani products beyond our borders.
What we needed was greater consistency in how we presented and positioned those strengths internationally.
Our products deserved professional branding.
Our entrepreneurs deserved greater access to international markets.
And our businesses needed to look beyond traditional markets and explore the opportunities being created across the world.
International exhibitions such as Gulfood provided exactly that opportunity.
Why Such Experiences Matter for Journalists
For me, attending Gulfood was also valuable from a journalistic perspective.
As journalists, we often report on economic growth, trade, exports, entrepreneurship and international relations.
But witnessing these things firsthand provided a completely different understanding.
I was able to see how businesses interacted, how international markets functioned and how important relationships had become in today’s global economy.
It reinforced my belief that journalism was not only about reporting what happened.
It was also about going there, observing carefully, listening to people and understanding the larger story behind an event.
What I Brought Back from Dubai
When I returned from Dubai, I brought back more than photographs and professional memories.
I brought back a renewed appreciation for the potential of Pakistan.
Gulfood had reminded me that the world was full of opportunities, but opportunities had to be recognized, pursued and prepared for.
Dubai had shown how important it was to think globally.
Pakistan had reminded me that we already possessed many of the ingredients needed to compete.
The challenge was to bring them together with better planning, quality, innovation and confidence.
A Journey Worth Remembering
Looking back at my Gulfood 2025 experience, I realized that the most valuable part of the journey had not been the size of the exhibition or the impressive number of international brands.
It had been the perspective it gave me.
I had seen people from different countries come together through business.
I had seen entrepreneurs turn ideas into products.
I had seen how food could become a bridge between cultures.
And I had seen Dubai continue to create an environment where the world could connect.
Most importantly, I had returned with a simple thought:
Pakistan had a story worth taking to the world.
We had the talent.
We had the resources.
We had the products.
What we needed was the confidence, quality and global vision to present them in the way they deserved.
For me, Gulfood 2025 was therefore not simply a visit to an international expo.
It was a reminder that when people, ideas and opportunities came together, borders became smaller — and possibilities became much bigger.
