ISLAMABAD (Online) – An audit report has disclosed that the Inspector General of Punjab Prisons has deposited Rs150 million collected from the rented commercial property of the department in his personal bank account.
The audit report of 2014 has revealed that the revenue earned from the rented property of the prisons department has not been deposited in the national chequer and instead IG Prisons Farooq Nazir deposited the sum in a personal account (0904481-08) at branch of the Bank of Punjab in Lahore.
The Auditor General, in its audit findings, had directed the Punjab Chief Minister to probe the matter and take action against IG Prisons, however, the issue has been swept under the carpet.
When contacted, the IG Prisons refused to comment on the issue.
On the other hand, a source in the Federal Investigation Agency claimed that the investigating agency has started probing the scam and everything will be crystal clear in the coming days.
