CJP threatens to resign with fellows if martial law imposed

LAHORE – The Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, clarified on Saturday that he, along with his fellows of top court, would relinquish their charge,  provided martial law is imposed in the country.

Addressing a ceremony in connection with the death anniversary of Allama Iqbal in Lahore, the top judge expressed that Quaid-e-Azam only envisaged democracy in Pakistan, stressing that only democracy could prevail in Pakistan.

The top judge remarked that there was no room for martial law in either the Constitution or anyone’s minds, reiterating his earlier claims that he will step down if democracy ceases to exist in Pakistan.

The top judge stated that Pakistan has been a result of continuous struggle and countless sacrifices adding that we didn’t get Pakistan as charity or gift.

“Whenever any decision is taken, an uproar of judicial martial law is raised. Those talking about it should clear their heads,” declared the Chief Justice.

The apex court judge also lavished praise on the services of Pakistan’s founding father Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

“Pakistan’s future would not have been like this if Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal had been among us in the initial years. How unlucky are those who do not have their own country? We have to work for Pakistan while sacrificing personal gains,” he said.
