LAHORE – At least 10 people were killed and 100 others injured in rain-related incidents across the Punjab province on Wednesday. Various cities of Punjab received pre-monsoon rain on Wednesday as Met Office forecast more downpours for the province till the next 12 hours, reported ARY News.
Heavy rainfall caused inundation in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and many other cities of Punjab province.
After several hours of heavy rainfall in Punjab the water level in drains was raised while in Gujranwala water entered in several government buildings and hospitals.
Roads in Gujranwala were submerged under rainwater in different localities adding to the issues of the locals, while Lahore, Sargodha, and other cities of the province were witnessing inundation and long power outages due to faulty feeders.
Poorly-built homes, particularly in rural areas, are most susceptible to collapse during heavy spring rain each year.
Met Office predicted rain in different parts of country, saying that rain/dust-thundershower with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in KP, FATA, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur divisions and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Sahiwal, Multan, D.G. Khan, Zhob divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next twelve hours.
Light rain/drizzle is expected at a few places along the Sindh coast while hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
According to the synoptic situation, westerly wave is most affecting upper and central parts of the country and likely to persist till Thursday.
