ISLAMABAD – Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced on Monday that a joint meeting of opposition parties would be held next week to make a future strategy.
Talking to newsmen after meeting Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, he said all the opposition parties were united to have a joint strategy as ‘they were working for the stability of the country’.
Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman agreed to convene All Parties Conference (APC) on Oct 31 to formulate a joint political strategy.
‘Opposition did not want to topple the government as they wanted to strengthen democracy,’ Zardari said in his press talk.
He said the PPP had been strengthening the democracy for the last 10 years adding that time was not opportune for immediate general elections and no-confidence move against the government should be taken to move forward.
The announcement came a day after the politician urged all political parties to join hands in passing a resolution to oust the sitting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Claiming that the government ‘is the centre of conspiracies’ and ‘Islamabad is the city of conspiracies’, the politician called for the formation of a policy to determine the direction in which the country is headed.
Responding to the calls, information minister Fawad Chaudhry expressed that the government cannot be ousted merely through a resolution as votes are needed for the said purpose.
