KARACHI – The Audi driver who reportedly misbehaved with police officials some days ago near Sea View was arrested late Saturday night, police sources said.
The man identified as Shams-ul-Islam — a lawyer by profession, can be seen behaving rudely with the security officials in a video that went viral on social media after the incident.
A case has been registered against Islam, with charges listed against him comprising obstruction of justice and threatening police officers, the sources added.
Police were on their regular rounds on Dr Abdul Sattar Edhi road for snap-checking to prevent speedsters and racing-related incidents in the area, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Javed Akbar told media .
In addition, police said Islam was driving with a fake registration plate on his car — which can be identified as an Audi.
According to Islam’s comments the day the incident took place, he was already slowing down due to a speed breaker when police officials stopped his vehicle by banging on the bonnet.
Islam had also claimed that the police officials present at the picket were harassing citizens and there was no wrongdoing on his part.
Sources informed that the arrest was made following the directions of Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal.
