KARACHI – Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday became the first Prime Minister of Pakistan to go underwater in a Pak-Navy submarine during a War Units’ Fleet Review Drill in north Arabian Sea.
The PM boarded PNS Saad, an Air-independent and long-range Khalid-class submarine, along with Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi at Jinnah Naval Base in Karachi.
According to a statement by Pakistan Navy, Mr Abbasi also carried out procedures and submarine diving.
Earlier, the prime minister reviewed the operational drill from Pak Navy destroyer Nasr.
After witnessing the impressive drill, he said Pakistan Navy is fully resolved to secure sea-lanes of the country including Gwadar Port and the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Lauding the professional expertise of the Pak Navy Prime Minister Abbasi said that Pak Navy is playing the role of defending the marine border of the country which makes people proud.
According to a spokesman of Pak Navy, an impressive flypast was staged by s aircrafts and helicopters of Pak Navy during the operational exercises.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who became the country’s 18th prime minister this August after Nawaz Sharif was sent packing by the Supreme Court over undeclared assets, also holds the distinction for flying a fighter jet and a military helicopter.
On his arrival at the ship, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi received the prime minister.
