ISLAMABAD – Major general Asif Ghafoor, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, has warned social media users that they should not be deceived by hackers misusing his name through malicious emails.
In a series of tweets made through his verified personal account, the ISPR chief revealed that the hackers were sending e-mails to users asking them to fill forms and enter their credentials, trying to defraud people using a domain name similar to the ISPR.

‘It is clarified that this is a phishing email which has no link to ISPR’ said the official, asking people not to open any such link with the subject ‘Appointment with Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor’.

The Pak Army spokesman continued that by opening the link in the scam mail, one can compromise the security of his/her computer or handheld device.
He also shared the official domain name of military’s media and expressed that there was no other domain name from which any official e-mail is forwarded.
A snapshot of the junk mail was also shared by Major Asif Ghafoor.

Though Major Asif Ghafoor did not share the culprit behind the nefarious bid, it is believed that the recent announcement of DG ISPR about arranging a ‘fans meeting me day’ might have attracted the cyber evil-geniuses to trick people into submitting their details online.
A two-star general, Ghafoor keeps on interacting with people through his unofficial Twitter handle; he also wished a happy birthday to Asmara Afridi, the daughter of former skipper Shahid Afridi and lavished praise on activist Muniba Mazari for her determination.
Ghafoor replaced Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa in December 2016 as the spokesperson for the Pakistan Army’s media wing.
