KARACHI – Ali Raza Abidi, the former member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan was assassinated in Karachi on Tuesday.
According to SSP South Karachi Pir Mohammad Shah, Abidi was attacked by unknown gunmen in Khayaban-e-Ghazi area of the metropolis as he was disembarking from his vehicle to enter his house.
He was rushed to PNS Shifa Hospital for treatment, however, he succumbed to his wounds.
Ikhlaq Abidi, the father of the politician, told newsmen that gunmen were riding a motorcycle and Abidi received two bullets to his neck in the attack.
Police have launched investigations into the incident while Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kaleem Imam has taken notice of the incident and sought a report.
Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the incident and directed the relevant authorities to catch the murderers of Abidi.
Ali Raza Abidi remained a member of the National Assembly from 2013-2018. Earlier, in the evening, Abidi posted a tweet and criticized the sitting regime.

In September, Abidi had announced his resignation from MQM-P’s basic membership citing “personal reasons” after the party ignored him in allotting ticket for NA-243 by-election, however, did not hand in his resignation to the party’s office-bearers directly and posted a hand-written resignation letter on social media.
The former MQM leader was a well-educated politician and did his immediate schooling from Karachi St. Patrick School. He got his B.com degree from DHA Degree College and I.com degree from S.M Commerce College. Then he went to states to complete his marketing degree from Boston University.
Ali Raza Abidi had plenty of experience in marketing sector and was the CEO of Akhlaq enterprises.
The attack came days after two workers of Pak Sarzameen Party were shot dead in Karachi.
PM Imran Seeks Report
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed profound grief over the assassination of Syed Ali Raza Abidi. The premier expressed condolence with the bereaved family and summoned a report on the matter.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also condemned the former lawmaker’s killing. He expressed grief and said that Abidi always played an effective role in politics.

Really sad to hear about Ali Raza Abdi @abidifactor. Had many meetings with him which we both didn’t share with media. He was about to join PPP before GE 2018.
