ISLAMABAD – National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday heard a case filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) seeking a decrease in tariff for the month of June, local media reported.
During the hearing, the Nepra issued an approval to reduce the rate of electricity Rs2.13 per unit in the wake of fuel adjustment for June. After the decrease, the customers will get a relief of Rs25 billion. The reduced tariff will not be applied to K-Electric.
The agency had stated in the petition that Rs 6.83 per unit was received from consumers in June instead of the actual price Rs 4.7 per unit determined on the basis of the cost of fuel.
It has asked Nepra to return Rs 2.134 per unit to consumers for each consumed unit. After approval, the consumers will be compensated in bills for July.
It is important to mention here that the reduced tariff will not be applicable to agricultural consumers and residential consumers who used less than 300 units per month as these categories are already subsidised by the government.
