NAB to contact Interpol to bring Sharifs back to country

ISLAMABAD – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided on Monday to bring former premier Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, and former finance minister Ishaq Dar back to Pakistan through Interpol.

The anti-graft watchdog will file an application to the International Criminal Police Organization at the concerned forum for the arrest of Sharifs.

The federal interior minister observed on Tuesday that cabinet will decide whether the names of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family among others will be put on Exit Control List (ECL) or not.

The interior minister Azam Khan asserted that Interior ministry has the authority to bring someone back with help of Interpol.

Earlier on the day, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif directed PML-N leaders to adopt a strict strategy in wake of the recent arrests by the National Accountability Bureau.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested two former officials, Wasim Ajmal and Qamar-ul-Islam of the Saaf Pani Company in the scam.

Wasim Ajmal was a former CEO of the Saaf Pani Company while Qamra-ul-Islam is a PML-N leader and contending general elections 2018 against Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan from NA 59.

The deposed PM’s sons are nominated in three references including the Avenfield Reference filed by NAB in line with the verdict of the Supreme Court in Panama Papers case.

The trial of Avenfield Reference against the Sharif family is underway at the accountability court (AC), while an ‘assets beyond sources of income’ reference is underway against former finance minister and Senator Ishaq Dar.
