ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan has urged all concerned quarters of Afghanistan to seek a peaceful settlement of the conflict through dialogue, instead of pursuing a military solution.
“During the past 17 years, the pursuit of a military option has only added to the sufferings and miseries of the Afghan people,” said FO spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal at the weekly media briefing on Thursday.
The spokesperson recalled that during Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s visit to Kabul earlier this month, the Prime Minister and President Ghani had called on the Taliban to respond positively to the peace offer extended by Ghani, in which Taliban were urged to join mainstream politics and open office in Kabul.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Afghan Taliban announced that they would start their annual spring offensive ‘Al Khandaq’, hinting that they were not interested in peace talks.
Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal had acknowledged that the Taliban’s spring offensive was a rejection of the government’s peace overture, Voice of America reported.
Another endorsement of rejection of peace offer is the killing of around 14 Afghan soldiers in an attack in the northern Kunduz province.
Indian Judicial System
Dr. Faisal also commented on the acquittal of five accused in the 2007 Hyderabad (India) Mecca Masjid blast case by Indian courts, saying the decision made a travesty of the Indian judicial system.
“India is making a complete mockery of its justice system, especially while dealing with Saffron terrorism and terrorist acts committed under the garb of Hindutva and Hindu fundamentalism,” Dr Faisal said.
The official also regretted the lack of progress in the Samjhauta Express attacks in which 42 Pakistanis lost their lives.
“Col Purohit and Swami Aseemanand were both masterminds of the deadly attack,” claimed the spokesperson.
