PPP seeks resignation of Ishaq Dar after indictment

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday called upon Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to step down after an accountability court indicted him in an assets reference case.

Talking to newsmen, the PPP leader Saleem Mandviwalla opined that the country was facing international embarrassment for having a finance minister who was indicted. The party had made a recommendation

“The party had made a recommendation in a Senate committee that Dar should resign but the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) did not agree,” he lamented.

On the occasion, Senator Sherry Rehman dismissed claims of the party going out of its way to support former premier, Nawaz Sharif.

“Nawaz is saving himself, not the democracy,” she said and added that the party made it clear it won’t support Nawaz once he was disqualified.

She also assailed ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz for prioritising their leader Nawaz over the country, saying the economic situation of the country had become dismal.

The PPP leader berated PML-N representatives for disrespecting judiciary and wondered that how would a commoner respect court verdicts when the rulers were not doing so.

The calls for the resignation of Finance Minister and Sharif’s close confidante came as he was indicted by the accountability court in the purview of corruption reference against him filed in line with top court’s verdict.

Dar denied all charges and vowed to prove his innocence in court.
