Army to bolster SC in case of confrontation with political forces, Imran opens up on Bajwa doctrine

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan expressed on Tuesday that the armed forces would be on the back of the Supreme Court in case of the latter’s direct confrontation with political parties.

Expressing his views about the much-hyped “Bajwa doctrine”, the PTI supremo said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif would be responsible if such a situation emerged due to his aggression and deliberate attacks on the judiciary and the armed forces.

In an interview to a private TV channel, the lawmaker noted that Nawaz Sharif was deliberately attacking the judiciary openly adding that he (Mr. Sharif) also attacked the armed forces cautiously.

“Nawaz Sharif has two sidekicks — Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F and Mehmood Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party — who attack the judiciary and the armed forces. In fact, Achakzai attacks the armed forces openly,” said Khan.

The 65-year-old politician declared that in this situation, he understood that the Bajwa doctrine vows to stand behind the judiciary for the supremacy of law.

The legislator continued that if such a situation emerged, it would benefit Nawaz Sharif, as he had launched a campaign to “invite the role of the army” in a bid to portray himself as a pro-democrat and defame the armed forces and the judiciary.

When asked about any sort of alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party, the PTI chief once again ruled out the possibility, calling its co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari ‘a corrupt man who could never be trusted for partnership for any political gains’.

“If I ally with the PPP and that alliance wins the mandate to form the government, what would be the first demand of Zardari?” he inquired before answering himself that he (Mr. Zardari) would definitely ask to form the government only to save his corruption through an NRO-like deal.

“So answer to your question is that there can be no alliance with Zardari’s PPP,” Mr Khan clarified.
