Information commissions under RTI Act to become functional soon: Fawad Ch

ISLAMABAD – Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said the information commissions at federal and Punjab level would become functional soon to ensure transparency in the governance.

He was addressing a seminar “Vision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government for Transparency and Right to Information” jointly organized by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) here.

He said the PTI government had introduced the system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during its previous tenure and now information commissioners were being appointed at federal and Punjab level to bring transparency in the governance.

The minister recalled that details of most of the mega-projects signed by the previous government were not made public and when their record was asked to be disclosed the record was burnt which added to the impression of corruption.

He said the Pakistan Peoples Party during its tenure inducted over 800 cronies in Radio Pakistan within three days time which caused billions of rupees loss to the Radio Pakistan.

The minister said the government job was to create employment opportunities and not stuff their own people in national institutions.

He said the RTI law, the whistleblower law envisaging 20 per cent share for the person helping in unearthing scams, would go a long way in speeding up the accountability process in the country.
SSDO Director Programmes Syed Kausar Abbas was also present on the occasion.
