LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday dismissed a petition, seeking directions for presidential system in the country, after declaring it non-maintainable.
The single bench comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan heard the petition filed by, a citizen, Engineer Muhammad Ilyas.
Earlier, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the presidential system was suitable for the country, submitting that Pakistan always made progress during the presidential system.
He pleaded with the court to issue directions for holding a referendum to replace existing parliamentary system with the presidential system.
He also sought directions for election of chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) through the referendum.
However, the court dismissed the petition declaring it non-maintainable.
