ISLAMABAD – Former Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called upon Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz to pay attention to the party’s interests instead of concentrating on those of individuals.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, the lawmaker took strong exception to the ebb and flow of ruling party post-Panama case judgement remarking that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had turned into a party based on personal interests.
The former security minister maintained that there were no rifts within the party but hastened to add that difference of opinion prevailed which was part of the democratic system.
‘I discussed my reservations at party meetings, not out on the streets.’ he declared.
The former minister said he had advised PML-N President Nawaz Sharif to refrain from delivering speeches on the Panama Papers issue.
He observed that Nawaz Sharif should not have written a letter to the apex court seeking the formation of a judicial commission to probe into the matter.
The legislator clarified that PML-N must respect the judiciary and other state institutions, and had the right to express reservations but can’t afford a confrontation.
Ch Nisar cited the confrontational approach of the party as a reason to part ways with the government.
He noted that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi should stop speaking about a ‘technocrat government’.
Expressing his views over the regional security situation, the former interior minister said Pakistan was facing threats from more than just one country and the situation worse than what it was in 1970.
He observed US President Donald Trump had to change his new Afghanistan strategy because Pakistan unanimously tackled the issue.
