KARACHI – Four policemen have been sacked for harassing and manhandling a married couple at Karachi’s Sea View, police said on Thursday.
The action was taken by Karachi police chief when a viral video shows that four cops, three of them were plain-clothed scuffled and brutally reacted to a married couple, who were walking along with Karachi beach, after their refusal to show the Nikahnama (marriage certificate).
The accused were identified as ASI Zulfiqar, Inspectors Ahmed Khan, Qurban Ali and Zahid Ali.
According to a notification, Inspectors Ahmed Khan, Qurban Ali and Zahid Ali have been sacked while ASI Zulfiqar, inspectors Ahmed Khan and Qurban had been arrested while Zahid Ali on the run.
“ASI Zulfiqar was earlier deployed at Boat Basin Police Station and went to Sea View with inspectors Ahmed Khan, Qurban and Zahid,” the SSP South added. “ASI Zulfiqar, Ahmed Khan and Qurban have been arrested,” the notification further read.
The Karachi police chief had warned that strict action will be taken against officers who harass young couples and ask them for marriage certificates.
