Trump talks to PM Imran, Narendra Modi as Kashmir crisis looms

ISLAMABAD – US President, Donald Trump made a telephonic contact with Indian Premiere Narendra Modi as well as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi addressed a press conference and confirmed the contacts established by the US President regarding the ongoing crisis in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

‘PM Khan had asked Trump to establish contact with Modi,’ the foreign minister expressed and added that the premier explained Pakistan’s viewpoint in depth regarding Kashmir.

The minister highlighted that US President talked to Narendra Modi today after which he got in touch with premier Imran Khan.

“We expect that the US would play its role to defuse the ongoing tensions that is because of the Kashmir Crisis,” Qureshi elaborated.

The minister said Pakistan seeks to ease the tension in the region adding that Premier Khan had asked Trump to find out a solution and lift the curfew.

‘The prime minister has informed Trump that India took unilateral action,’ the minister said.

The contact comes amid lockdown in Kashmir valley. The Narendra Modi-led regime revoked the special status granted to Kashmir as it scrapped article 35A and 370 of the constitution.

Residents in the valley are facing communication blackout as the curfew entered 15th consecutive day today.
