Ban Ki-moon voices serious concern over escalation of violence along LoC

UNITED NATIONS (APP) – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Tuesday expressed his “serious concern” about the recent escalation of violence along the Line of Control (LoC) in the disputed Kashmir
region, and called on India and Pakistan to address their differences through dialogue.

“The Secretary-General calls upon the governments of India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint and take all feasible steps to ensure the protection of civilians,” the secretary-general said in a statement, released by his spokesperson, amid incidents of firing across LoC that has resulted in a number of casualties, including civilians.

The Secretary-General also welcomed the planned meeting between National Security Advisors of the two countries on August 23-24, and expressed the hope that it would lead to positive outcomes.
