PIA, aviation industry make rapid progress in a short span of time

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Aviation sector in Pakistan has made landmark progress in delivering on its commitment and taking aviation sector to new heights in a short period of time.

New initiatives and progressive steps have been taken in each organization, i.e. Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Airport Security Force (ASF) and Metrological for promoting its mission to promote and regulate civil aviation activities, and to develop an infrastructure for safe, secure, efficient, adequate, economical and properly coordinated civil air transport service in Pakistan.

This was stated by Sher Ali Khan, media spokesperson Aviation Division at a press briefing on Wednesday, along with Fariha Tahir Shah, Joint Director PR, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.

Under the leadership of Shujaat Azeem, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Aviation, PIA recorded a gross operating profit of PKR 2.83 billion in 1st quarter of 2015, whereas revenue has increased by 6 % and losses reduced by 37 % in 2014-2015.

PIA has increased its fleet from 22 to 35 and plans are underway to increase it to 42 by Q4 2015.

After grounding A-310 aircraft and acquiring new 777 aircraft the average fleet age will come down to 6 years.

Due to this inclusion, the service standards of airline will improve significantly.

Another positive addition to the airline is the induction of 8 new co-buses gifted to Shujaat Azeem by the Government of Qatar for the people of Pakistan, along with $25 million worth of equipment ILS CAT-III which was also gifted.
