Ex-Pemra chairman Absar Alam injured in Islamabad gun attack

ISLAMABAD – Former chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and senior journalist Absar Alam received bullet injuries after he was attacked by unknown gunman in capital city on Tuesday. 

In a video shared by journalist Asad Toor, the senior journalist can be heard saying he was attacked when he was walking outside his home.

“I have been hit in my ribs,” he said

“My message to those who attacked me that such tactics could not scare me,” Alam said in the video.

Police said that the veteran journalist was attacked when he was in F-11 Park for evening walk, adding that he received bullet in his abdomen. 

Alam has been shifted to hospital for treatment. Doctors said the patient is out of danger. 

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has taken notice of the incident and ordered a probe in this regard. 

PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz condemning the attack on senior journalist in a tweet said: “Silencing the voice of dissent is a cancer that has plagued this country for many years. Absar Alam Sahab is the latest victim of this cruel & barbaric crime. May Allah SWT heal his wounds and the wounds of this country. Ameen”.

Federal Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has also condemned the attack, adding that police have been ordered to investigate the matter.
