PIA strike enters 7th day; Negotiations on to end impasse

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Another round of negotiations between representatives of PIA employees and the government will be held to end the strike continuing for last seven days, President PIA Air
League Muhammad Usman Khan said Monday.

Employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) were staging a ‘token protest’ and “We will not let them halt the flight operations because we do not want to harm the state owned airlines,”
he said while talking to media.

The PIA employees kept the administration offices closed against a bill that recently sailed through the National Assembly, converting the airlines into a public limited company.

On January 29, the government had announced to halt the process of finding a strategic partner for the airlines, urging the PIA employees to call off their strike.

The government had also assured that rights of PIA employees would be protected and their perks and privileges, salaries, and gratuity would never be affected in the new revival plan for the national flag carrier.
