ISLAMABAD – The discussion surrounding constitutional amendments has taken a pivotal turn. Sardar Akhtar Mengal, leader of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), has introduced a significant condition for his support. Mengal has demanded the recovery of 2,000 missing persons in exchange for backing the proposed amendments.
Former Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has contacted Mengal to address his concerns. According to sources, Mengal has requested a detailed draft of the constitutional amendments before committing. In return for his two crucial Senate votes, Mengal has insisted on the immediate return of the missing individuals.
Sanjrani has assured Mengal that his demands will be seriously considered. The issue of missing persons has long been a pressing concern for Mengal and his party, particularly in Balochistan, where the problem remains unresolved. This demand underscores the broader human rights issues that have been a focal point for Mengal.
The resolution of this matter could significantly influence the progress of the constitutional amendments and draw attention to ongoing human rights challenges in the region.
