MULTAN – Mehrbano Qureshi, daughter of former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Zahid Bahar Hashmi, and Daleer Mahar has been arrested for violating Section 144 near Pul Chatta on Saturday.
Local media said three leaders and several workers were detained for leading protests despite the imposition of Section 144 in the region. PTI workers and leaders were taken by local police, and further proceedings are underway.
The move follows stern enforcement of Section 144, which restricts public gatherings in Punjab. Authorities have yet to comment on further actions against the party members involved.
Punjab government on Friday imposed Section 144, banning all political protests, rallies, and gatherings on February 8 to maintain peace and security. The decision, issued by the Punjab Home Department, cites concerns about public gatherings becoming targets for terrorism.
This move coincides Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) calling for a “Black Day” to protest alleged electoral rigging. PTI leader Alia Hamza instructed party members to hold peaceful protests, emphasizing that protesting is their constitutional right despite the ban.
