PTI set to exhibit political power in Lahore

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Just a week after 20th foundation day procession in Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to show off political muscles at Lahore’s Chairing Cross on Sunday (today).

The party workers and leaders from across the country have started reaching the rally site, while PTI chief Imran Khan has arrived in the venue.

Party chairman Imran Khan and other central leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Hajangir Tareen, Asad Umar, Arif Alvi, Shafqat Mehmood, Pervez Khatak and Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed will address the participants.

According to a statement, strict security arrangements have been made in the provincial capital to avoid any unusual incident. Provincial Interior Ministry has advised the participants to stay calm and cooperate with administration. Police have divided the rally site into three separate security zones.

The Punjab Government, however, has not granted formal permission for political rally at Mall Road citing security concerns. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that PTI leadership will be held responsible of consequences if any unfortunate incident took place.

The rally comes at a time, when PTI chairman Imran Khan has threatened the PML-N government of a march towards Raiwind residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He has demanded Nawaz Sharif to tender resignation for free and fair investigation into Panama Papers leak.

Meanwhile Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation. In his address to party rally in Kotli on Saturday, he urged Nawaz Shairf to resign till the completion of commission probe.

PPP Chairman said that: “PM Sharif will not be able to complete his constitutional tenure for his the boat of his government is sinking,”

PPP Chairman during his address said that the Prime Minister has not condemned the violence that has been carried out in Kashmir and stated that Peoples Party endorses the efforts of the Kashmiris.

“Whenever I speak of the Kashmiris, Modi government and the Indian media start propaganda (against me)” he said. He further added that the global community has turned a blind eye towards the Kashmir issue.

Eleven million documents were leaked from one of the world’s most secretive companies, Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca revealed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his sons Hussain and Hasan Nawaz, and daughter Mariam Safdar set up at least four offshore companies in British Virgin Islands (BVI).

These companies owned at least six upmarket properties overlooking London’s Hyde Park.

Sharif family mortgaged four of these properties to the Deutsche Bank (Suisse) SA for a loan of GBP 7 million and the Bank of Scotland part financed the purchase of two other apartments.

Mossack Fonseca’s email to it’s clients, one of which is alleged to be the Sharif Family. The documents also claim that the company , “Mossack Fonseca resigned from a company Hasan directed in 2007, calling him ‘a politically exposed person’.”

The document leak led opposition parties to raise a demand of investigation into allegations against the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Two major paties, PPP and PTI, have demanded the Prime Minister to resign for transparent inquiry, while the ruling party has dismissed their demand.

Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf has written a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan, requesting him to form a judicial commission to probe into money laundering allegations, debt write offs and other financial corruptions from 1947 to the day. The opposition parties have rejected the TORs of the commission, calling it an attempt to divert attention from allegations against the Sharif Family.
