ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – A research study published by the government’s water research body has warned that Pakistan will not have enough water to meet its growing needs as early as 2025.
According to a report published in Express Tribune, the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) report predicts that the country will face an acute water shortage or extended drought in the near future if the prevailing situation is allowed to continue, given that the country was categorized as water-stressed by 1990 and water-scarce by 2005.
To deal with the upcoming situation, the reports stressed the need for carrying out research at various levels to arrive at the best possible solutions.
However, in a troubling statement for research on water scarcity in the country, a Ministry of Science and Technology (S&T) official said, “Unfortunately, the PCRWR has no funds to ensure sustainable research.”
The (PCRWR) research institute is an apex body of the S&T ministry responsible for carrying out, coordinating, organizing and promoting research in various aspects of water resources.
