LAHORE – The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department on Wednesday approved a tenfold increase in the base prices of 64 premium vehicle registration numbers.
The move aims to ensure transparency and maximize revenue through online auctions of unsold numbers.
Under the revised rates, popular numbers such as 1, 3, 57, and 9 now have a base price of Rs100,000, while the renowned 786 number has been raised from Rs10,000 to Rs100,000. Double-digit numbers will cost Rs 50,000, up from Rs 7,000, and triple-digit numbers have increased to Rs25,000 from Rs5,000.
Authorities have also approved the re-auction of 46,600 unsold numbers, with rates allocated for leftover numbers.
According to officials, 10,400 car numbers, 33,300 motorcycle numbers, and 3,000 commercial vehicle numbers remain unclaimed.
The department reported that over Rs 8 billion has already been collected from e-auctions, and the new rates will be implemented starting this month to meet growing demand for premium numbers while ensuring a transparent sales process.
