PESHAWAR – The endless honking of baajas and noise of firecrackers can quickly turn Independence Day celebrations into a headache. But this year, the noise is set to be toned down as Section 144 brings fresh restrictions, banning baajas, firecrackers and other activities deemed a threat to public safety.
Peshawar district administration imposed sweeping set of restrictions to prevent disorder and accidents across the KP capital. Authorities banned the sale and purchase of baajas, or toy horns, along with toy pistols and firecrackers. The restrictions will remain in force until August 15, according to an official notification issued by the district administration.
The crackdown goes beyond the sale of festive items. Aerial firing, fireworks and one-wheeling have also been restricted as authorities prepare for the country’s 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 14.
Officials warned that violators will face strict legal action, particularly on Independence Day when large gatherings and celebrations are expected across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital.
The administration issued special appeal to young people to stay away from one-wheeling, a dangerous stunt that can result in serious accidents and endanger other road users.
Authorities said the restrictions are aimed at protecting human lives and property while ensuring that Independence Day festivities do not turn into incidents of violence, reckless driving or public disorder.
With the ban remaining in effect through August 15, residents have been urged to celebrate responsibly and comply with the administration’s directives.
