US urges Pakistan to target elements involved in terrorism in other countries

WASHINGTON – While extending a sense of satisfaction towards Pakistan’s recent military operations against militants, the United States has urged Pakistan to also take action against the elements involved in terrorist activities in other countries.

Speaking at a daily briefing, US State Department spokesman Mark Toner reitrated that the United States will continue to support Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism, violent extremism, and build a more stable and democratic society.

He said support to Pakistan in the fight against terrorism is in long-term national interest of the United States itself and the whole world.

On the occasion, the spokesman once again lauded the statement of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif in which he stated that Pakistan’s soil will not be allowed to be used against any other country.

When asked if the United States still supports UN resolutions promising right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir,  the spokesman said US policy and position on Kashmir has not changed.

However, he said the United States wants Pakistan and India to hold bilateral dialogue to settle the Kashmir issue and all other outstanding problems between the two states.
