DERA GHAZI KHAN (Staff Report) – In a strange incident of honour killing, five men chopped off the arms, nose and lips of a man in Paiga village in district Dera Ghazi Khan, who later died at hospital.
The assailants also took away the severed limbs of the victim, later identified as Allah Ditta, with them. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Allah Ditta, a resident of Sabra Nachawn village, was a married man, who had an affair with another married woman of Paiga village. The woman had previously eloped with Ditta, however, upon the intervention of elders, she returned to the house of her husband.
On Monday, Allah Ditta once again reached Paiga village to meet the woman when he was attacked by five men. They chopped off his arms, lips and nose and took the severed limbs along with them leaving the victim in a pool of blood.
Upon coming aware of the brutal incident, the locals rushed Allah Ditta to Trauma Centre of Ghazi Medical College where he succumbed to his injuries after some hours.
According to Station House Officer Ali Mohammad, an FIR has been registered in Gaddai police station against two relatives of the woman, Iqbal and Allah Divaya, and their three unidentified accomplices. Raids are being conducted to arrest the suspects.
The incident came just two days after renowned model Qandeel Baloch, who also hailed from Dera Ghazi Khan district, was murdered by her brother, Waseem Ahmad, in an apparent honour killing case. The accused has been arrested by the police.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that the honour killing of women is one of the most reported crimes in Pakistan, however, the number of male victims is strangely ignored.
According to Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, nearly 1,100 Pakistanis including 88 men died in honour-related killings in 2016 alone. In 2011, the number of men killed for honour stood at 115 while 605 women also died for the same reason.
The United Nations Population Fund claims that around 5,000 females lose their lives annually in the name of honour all around the world and out of these approximately, 1,000 women are killed in Pakistan per year.
