Oval Test: Pakistan clinch memorable victory over England on Independence Day

LONDON (Staff Report) – Pakistan defeated England on Sunday in the fourth and final Test of the series played at The Oval by 10 wickets. The Men in Green were given a total of 40 runs to chase in the final innings of the match by the hosts which Pakistan chased down in the 13th over.

The hosts were bowled out for a total of 253 runs in the 2nd innings. Yasir Shah was the star-performer for Pakistan with the ball as he picked up five wickets whereas Wahab got two of his own. With an individual score of 81, Jonny Bairstow was the leading scorer for England in the second innings. Joe Root was the other top-scorer with 39 runs.

Pakistan were bowled out for 542 in the 1st innings of the match as Younis Khan played a brilliant knock of 218 runs and Asad Shafiq scored 109 runs. Pakistan were 214 runs ahead of England’s 1st innings total of 328. England resumed the fourth day of the fourth and final Test at 88-4.

Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam remained not out at the scores of 30 and 12 runs respectively as Pakistan easily chased the score without losing any wickets. Azhar finished the match by hitting a massive six off Moeen Ali’s ball towards long-on.

Younis Khan was named as Man of the Match for his brilliant knock whereas Pakistan’s skipper, Misbah-ul-Haq, was named Pakistan’s Man of the Series whereas Chris Woakes was named England’s Man of the Series. The four match series ended at 2-2.

Pakistan climbed up to the number 2 spot on the Test rankings. Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif congratulated the team for the achievement.

PCB announces ODI squad for England, Ireland tours

The series comprises of four Tests, five ODIs and a T-20 match.

Misbah ul Haq will lead the national test team in the Test series while Azhar Ali and Sarfraz Ahmed will captain the teams in ODIs and Twenty20, respectively.
