29 injured as explosion rocks New York

NEW YORK – At least 29 people Saturday night sustained injuries when an explosion stormed the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York, United States.

According to the officials, the blast was a planted device and could be a criminal act. The initial findings suggested that the incident was not linked with any terrorist organisation.

Two nearby building were also evacuated by the fire fighters to ensure that fire ignited by the explosion did spread to adjacent sites.

Rescuers said that none of the people was seriously wounded except the one who was being treated in the intensive care unit of the department.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, in a statement released to media, said that actual intention behind the blast could not be determined immediately, however, it was a deliberate criminal act.

“There was no evidence of a credible and specific threat to the city. We do not see a link to terrorism,” he added.

The head of the New York Police Department’s special operations division said on Twitter that another explosive device was also recovered from the same area.

It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Manhattan is the business hub of the New York City, where the offices of almost every major corporate company are located.
