Govt protecting fundamental civilian rights, says President Mamnoon

ISLAMABAD – President Mamnoon Hussain has said the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees freedom to its citizens regardless of their caste, color or creed and Government is adopting all possible measures to safeguard fundamental rights of every citizen of the State.

In his message on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, being observed today (Saturday), the president said the observance of International Human Rights Day reflects deep commitment of Pakistan to promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.

He said indeed upholding human dignity, safeguarding human rights and ensuring human freedom and equality are fundamental principles of our religion.

“Let us reiterate our pledge as conscientious and responsible society to contribute individually as well as collectively in putting an end to all challenges and factors that endanger and jeopardize basic rights of individuals,” the president added.

He said there was a need to augment efforts to protect vulnerable sections of the society and provide them with legislative, administrative, institutional and infrastructural support to enable them to lead a happy and healthy life.

The expressed his pleasure that the Action Plan for Human Rights approved by the prime minister in February, 2016 is being implemented in letter and spirit to further improve human rights situation in the country.

The president urged all relevant stakeholders to accord top priority to implementation of the action plan in line with our national obligation, in this regard.

President Mamnoon called upon the government, civil society, non governmental organisations, media and the private institutions to fortify their efforts for establishing a just and tolerant society by ensuring respect for human rights and dignity.

He commended the UN for observing this day globally and also paid homage to all those who have suffered in the course of their struggle for human rights.
