SHC orders removal of Ayyan Ali s name from ECL

KARACHI – Sindh High Court ordered the removal of supermodel Ayyan Ali’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL) on  Thursday (today).

Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto issued a short order on an application filed by the model regarding removal of her name from ECL, which barred her from travelling abroad.

The counsel for the top model stated that Ayyan would now head to Dubai to inquire about her ailing mother.

Ayyan was arrested by customs officials from Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, in March 2015 on charges of smuggling US $500,000 abroad. Afterwards she was held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail till Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered her release.

Later on, the Customs Court also returned her passport but refused to remove her name from Exit Control List (ECL). The model moved the Sindh High Court (SHC) against  the Customs Court’s decision.

In the meanwhile the Customs Department also announced the confiscation of the model’s money US $500,000 which she was allegedly smuggling abroad. An additional fine of Rs. 5 crore was also imposed on Ayyan Ali.
