KARACHI – The noose is tightening around Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi as a case has been filed against him for allegedly threatening those who are probing assets of Sharif family in a speech.
According to Dawn News, the case was registered at Bahadurabad police station under Sections 189 (Threat of injury to public servant), 228 (Intentional insult or interruption to public servant sitting in judicial proceeding) and 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
On the other hand, the Attorney General of Pakistan had asked the Sindh prosecutor general to start proceedings against Hashmi in Karachi where the speech was made.
Nehal Hashmi’s Outrageous Speech
Nehal Hashmi came into the limelight on Wednesday when a video surfaced in which he can be seen threatening judiciary in a veiled reference.
The video that went viral on the internet shows a disgruntled Senator Nehal warning rivals and ‘some honourable officials associated with top institutions’ of dire consequences if they continued their concerns with the accountability of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
“Whoever is asking for accountability will retire tomorrow and we will deal with them,” insinuated Hashmi in a veiled threat to the top judiciary currently probing the ruling Sharif family in the backdrop of Panama papers.

“Those grilling… [be warned that] we will arrange the day of judgment for you.”
“You are making the life of the prime minister difficult. The Pakistani nation will make it difficult for you to live,” he added, without taking any names.
Contempt Notice
On June 1, the Supreme Court conducted a hearing of the case and served a contempt of court notice to the PML-N’s senator for his threatening speech.
The apex court sought Hashmi’s reply regarding the contempt of court notice by Monday besides appointing Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf as a prosecutor.
During today’s hearing, Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that the top judiciary knew what it was doing adding that the Joint Investigation Team currently investigating offshore assets of Sharif family was formulated by the supreme court.
“No one can scare us,” remarked Justice Ejaz Afzal.
Justice Aijaz Ul Ahsan expressed that the members of cabinets issued threats during the proceedings of the Panama case as well.
Resignation
Hashmi had resigned from his Senate seat hours after a video surfaced last week, showing him threatening “those investigating” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.
