Google updates mobile search app with personalized feed

SAN FRANCISCO – Leading search engine giant, Google has announced that it will introduce personalized feed of links in its search app for mobile phones that will spark competition with other social network sites such as Facebook, local media reported.

The links include hobbies, sports, travel and other topics would soon be revealed by Google and Alphabet Inc in US today and other countries in the coming weeks.

The latest change has been named “Google Feed” alike the Facebook’s “News Feed” uses for providing updates from family, friends and others.

Google has made it clear that it was not trying to copy Facebook, adding that the company aimed at developing a space to see relevant search results.

“This feed is really about your interests … It’s not really about what your friends are interested in,” Ben Gomes, a Google vice president for engineering, said in a briefing with reporters.

Gomes highlighted that the company did not have immediate plans to include advertising in Google Feed.

According to the company, the users will be suggested links through Google Feed following user’s Google search history as well as data from YouTube, Gmail and Google Calendar.

The company is also planning to attach the Google Feed to web browser after putting it on mobile apps, another Google vice president said.
