ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court ordered the relevant authorities on Monday to immediately appoint judges at accountability courts across the country.
The directives were issued by a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, while hearing the case regarding the appointment of the prosecutor general of accountability watchdog.
During today’s hearing, the attorney general (AG) informed the bench that National Accountability Bureau prosecutor general would be appointed in a week.
Ashtar Ausaf noted that the appointment of a judge in the Islamabad Accountability Court, currently functioning with Judge Muhammad Bashir, would be completed in 10 days.
The AG maintained that he would consult the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court regarding the appointment of accountability court judges.
He informed the bench that NAB’s prosecution department was suffering due to the absence of the prosecutor general, adding that authorities were delaying the process to benefit someone.
Justice Gulzar said that there should be a practice of nominating a judge two months before the outgoing judge relinquishes charge.
Afterwards, the apex court sought a report in this regard from the secretary Law Division in two weeks.
