CJP eyes smooth execution of summaries after meeting PM Abbasi

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar remarked on Wednesday that no summary would be halted in future, in a reference to the ‘positive outcome’ of his meeting with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Hearing a case regarding the provision of health facilities in federal hospitals and medicines and injections being stolen from hospitals, the top judge observed that several matters will progress rapidly after yesterday’s meeting – which was his first ever with Khaqan Abbasi.

“God willing, nothing will come to a standstill now. We will let the government work,” noted the Chief justice.

CJP’s remarks came after additional Attorney General Mohammad Waqar Rana told the court that a summary related to the appointment of heads of hospitals under PIMS and federation will be forwarded to the cabinet.

Swift action is being taken over court’s orders, he added.

The top judge also expressed his wish that the post of secretary health should be filled by a doctor.

“I think that only the doctors should supervise the administrative matters of health. Secretary health should also be a doctor. If no development is made, we will ourselves assign the right person,” remarked the CJP.

It is noteworthy that Chief Justice of Pakistan and Prime Minister held a two-hour long huddle on Tuesday in a surprise move and according to a communique issued by the apex court, Khaqan Abbasi, the successor of Nawaz Sharif had requested such meeting.

According to the official statement, the meeting was held in a pleasant environment and the premier informed the chief justice about the issues federal board of revenue and tax department was facing ‘on account of pendency of litigation involving revenue in different Courts’.

The sources privy to the development said case hearings against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif were not discussed in the meeting. Prime Minister Abbasi apprised the chief justice on the issues executive is facing due to certain observations by the courts.
