Nawaz advises Zardari to avoid mudslinging, baseless claims

ISLAMABAD –  Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that Pakistan Peoples Party co-Chairman Asif Zardari should avoid mudslinging and baseless claims.

According to media reports, Nawaz Sharif expressed that recent statements of Zardari did not befit the head of a PPP, adding that he did not want to engage in a war of words with the former president.

Earlier, Asif Zardari had claimed that Nawaz had taken every opportunity to discredit him by making him fight with the establishment while he(Nawaz) himself extended a hand of friendship towards them.

In a statement today, Nawaz wondered how Zardari could be so naive as to be double-crossed so easily.

The ousted PM claimed that he sent a message condemning Zardari’s remarks during his ‘anti-establishment’ speech in 2015, adding that he then cancelled a planned meeting with Zardari the next day.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader and former Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif claimed on Monday that Pakistan Peoples Party co-Chairman Asif Zardari kept apologising after his controversial 2015 statement about the establishment.

Previously, in a heated speech in 2015, Zardari had warned the establishment not to overstep its mandate.

“Do not disturb us or we will respond to a brick with a brick,” he said, following which he left the country and returned after 18 months.
