RAWALPINDI – The leader of Pakistan People Party Workers, Naheed Khan has announced her decision to set up a hunger strike camp outside the National Press Club from May 14.
Addressing a workers’ convention at Rawalpindi Press Club on Sunday, Naheed said there was a need to stand up and be counted for the rights of the citizens to start a ‘political, social and economic revolution’ in the country.
The workers will stand up to end the politics of those 22 families which are ruling over the years, Naheed added as she referred to Dr Haq, former Chief Economist of the Planning Commission’s findings that 22 richest families controlled 66 percent of the industries.
Ms Khan expressed that former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto had raised voice for the voiceless and did a lot to bring socio-economic changes in society, but, now no leader was raising voice for the oppressed segments of the society.
She urged Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and the army to promote education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where boys and girls lacked access to schools.
On the occasion, PPP Workers President, Safdar Abbasi said the country lacked political leadership and there was a dire need to improve the image of politicians which had been tarnished by PTI chief Imran Khan and former premier Nawaz Sharif.
Abbasi said both the leaders were following instructions of someone else, adding that Charter of Democracy had been signed 10 years ago but it was not implemented yet.
