LAHORE – A lawmaker from Punjab invited a storm in her hometown as she quit the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to join the opposition party – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – just a month before next general elections.
Dr. Nadia Aziz had joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after holding a meeting with PTI chairman Imran Khan on Monday.
Following her announcement, angry workers of the ruling party displayed panaflex posters featuring the MPA and a lota, a round water pot of plastic, used to personify a ‘turncoat’ in Pakistan.
The banners, which kept on hanging across the city for hours, also carried words in Urdu, calling her “opportunist”.

They were later removed by the staff of Parks and Horticulture Authority on the orders of Aziz, who holds the office of PHA chairman in Sargodha.
A PHA officer told the media that “(even after stepping down as MPA) Nadia Aziz is still a PHA Chairperson; the implementation of her orders is our duty.”
Nazia Aziz was elected MPA from PP-34 Sargodha after bagging 33,853 votes in 2013 general elections.
Interestingly, she faces criticism from the voters of both PML-N and PTI, who have been staging demonstrations against her since she Monday.
