SWABI – Another disillusioned PTI member has resigned from his post in the build-up to the general elections, raising alarm bells for the party striving to muster support.
Anwar Haqdad, Pakistan Tehreek-i-insaf’s district president in Swabi has expressed disappointment over the party leadership’s inability to grant due acknowledgment to its loyal workers.
Haqdad was one of the first people in the region to join PTI and rendered his resignation in a convention in Razaar tehsil on Wednesday where worker’s discontent and dissent at the crucial pre-election period was being discussed.
In spite of his resignation, Haqdad maintains that he is a dedicated follower of Imran Khan but cannot occupy the post if it goes against his self-respect. He showed disapproval at the way senior leaders treated office-bearers of the district level.
Apparently, Haqdad had informed his fellow district office-bearers about the decision prior to the announcement and had received their support as well as an offer for all of them to resign. Mr. Haqdad, however, warned against such an action out of responsibility towards serving the needs of the district.
This displays the disgruntlement of party workers at the local level and divisions within the party at this critical juncture preceding the 25 July elections.
Haqdad had contested the 2013 elections, however, he was not able to secure victory, gaining merely 19,661 votes against Engineer Usman Khan Tarrakai of Awami Jamhuri Ittehad Pakistan.
